Solo

A solitary sand pipe provides a solo performance in an amphitheater of Entrada (red) and Henrieville (white) sandstone in Kodachrome Basin State Park. Sand pipes are fairly unique to this park. These massive, sandstone, chimney spires are believed by geologists to be solidified sediment that filled ancient springs or geysers and was left standing after the softer, surrounding sandstone eroded away.
