Battleship Row

Like a line of battleships, a row of sandstone formations gathers sunset light in Kodachrome Basin State Park. What looks like a smokestack is a sand pipe formation, unique to this park. These massive, sandstone, chimney spires are believed by geologists to be solidified sediment that filled ancient springs or geysers and was left standing after the softer, surrounding sandstone eroded away.
