Toroweap Sunrise
After the spectacular sunset, sunrise at Toroweap was rather ordinary. I had scouted this location the previous afternoon, and carefully returned in the dark an hour before sunrise. It is always a wonderful experience to wait in the dark for the canyon to slowly appear out of the darkness as dawn replaces night. The rocks begin to take shape, and the river appears as a silver band against the shadowed canyon walls. Then the sun pops over the horizon and washes the rocks with intensely warm light. The wonder of this experience never grows old.
