A young black bear sniffs the breeze from a hillside above Porters Creek Trail in the Greenbrier area near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I had walked up the trail after lunch without my camera gear to scout for wildflowers. I was nearly back to the carpark when another hiker spotted this bear. I dashed back to the truck, grabbed my gear and hustled back up the hill to catch this youngster sitting in a clump of yellow wakerobins/trilliums. All he needs is a hat to pose as a U.S. Forest Service Smoky Bear poster.
