Two large potholes in the huge Golden Cathedral alcove allow climbers to rappel about 65 feet from the slot canyon above into the pool under the potholes. This afternoon we hiked the high route above Neon Canyon up to the potholes. While there, we met a couple planning to rappel into Golden Cathedral later in the day while carrying their small dog. We hiked back to the Escalante River and returned to Golden Cathedral to wait for the climbers. To our disappointment, they never appeared.
