Medano Creek begins on the north slope of Mt. Herard, winds around to the east slopes, then flows south out of the mountains and passes on the east side of the dunefield. This mid-morning view over the creek toward Mt. Herard was found during a 7-mile loop hike up the creek and back along established trails to the carpark.
