From Tweedie Point to Hudson Point is only about 33 miles but requires nearly two hours on primitive roads. About half-way we planned to take a short detour to Nutters Twist for a view recommended by the Parashant expert at the National Park Service, Jeff Axel. However, we found the "road" to the view to be so rough that we decided it wasn't worth the time and effort. The remainder of the drive took us through Hidden Canyon.

Like Tweedie Point, Hudson Point provides views from the rim of Grand Wash Cliffs. About 3,000 feet below, the Pakoon Basin stretches toward Nevada to the west and the Colorado Plateau to the south and east. At the rim of the Point, one can find fossils in the Permian-age, Kaibab limestone.

By the time we reached Hudson Point we were already quite concerned about fuel mileage. After 70 miles the fuel gauge showed that we had already burned 1/4 tank despite driving conservatively and with only two very brief uses of 4-wheel-drive. I had been told to expect 350 miles on a tank of fuel, but now it seemed that we might get 280 miles or less. We would actually be traveling 244 miles before refueling, which meant that we’d gone from having plenty of margin for error to having none. All we could do was wait and see how things played out.

After a sunrise shoot at Hudson Point we headed for Snap Point.
