Our adventure in Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument (hereafter simply called Parashant) began in Park City, Utah where I picked up a rental Jeep Rubicon, driving it 300 miles south to St.George to meet Adam Schallau, fellow photographer and travel companion for the next nine days.

We immediately crossed into Arizona and Parashant. Our first destination was Tweedie Point (a.k.a. Tweeds Point) on the rim of the northern Grand Wash Cliffs, 46 miles south of St.George on progressively smaller dirt roads and 2-tracks.

Tweedie Point offers a view across the Pakoon Basin – over 2,000 feet below – as well as the colorful Hidden Canyon and the Grand Wash Cliffs Wilderness. The rim at Tweedie Point is a geologic curiosity, made of erosion-resistant, Kaibab limestone embedded with fossilized Permian creatures like sponges, bryozoans, shellfish, and crinoids.

Because Tweedie Point is in the interior of Parashant, the views from Tweedie are different than viewpoints along the Grand Canyon -- probably a bit less dramatic but still quite interesting.

After a sunrise shoot on Day 2, we headed for Hudson Point.
