Far View Ruins Coyote Village
Like most of the homes and villages in the Far View community, Coyote Village was constructed long before Mesa Verde's cliff dwellings. Starting before 975 CE, Coyote Village was built, occupied, abandoned, rebuilt, and reoccupied several times. Each time the people returned, they reused some of the stones and timbers, adding to or remodeling some of the rooms their ancestors had built. Some of the kivas in Coyote Village were built with a recess that gives them a "keyhole" shape, while other kivas lack the recess. The "keyhole" style may indicate a local style that came to prefer in the 1200s.
