Mud Drive

After Adam and I left Nampaweap in Parashant for the 83-mile drive to St. George, Utah, we soon hit CR-5 which normally is a really good (dirt) road. As the snow melted, CR-5 immediately became sticky and muddy. I drove as fast as I dared, with the Jeep slithering and sliding even on straightaways. Learning to drive in snow country turned out to be excellent training! The Dugway was particularly interesting since the hillside is a particularly slick type of clay. We crept down the single-vehicle roadway in 4WD at about 2-3mph, keeping as close to the uphill side as possible while sliding constantly and hoping we wouldn’t slip off the drop on the downhill side. Even at the Mount Trumbull Schoolhouse the ground was still a bit soft and muddy.
